Past and Present Soldiers.........

 I have the utmost respect for you, and am thankful to come from a country of such pride and strength, and for the freedom for which you have fought and defended.

 I have a question though.    One that I tried to post on a story by a certain poor sport here, then was given the big pink You May Not Comment On this Story.....

 

 As Soldiers, did you not take an oath to honor  your Commander In Chief,  whether you  supported his election or not.   

 And by slandering him are you dishonoring your country as well as your oath ?

The military used to be this way. It was more of just a code of honor they practiced. Past Vietnam, more people became out spoken against their commander in chief. Mostly they were reprimanded, suggested to refrain from criticism It is not wise to show disrespect, but there are some in the military that do it anyway. It is pretty disrespectful, counter productive, and it breaks up the mental unity and hope once cynicism gets thrown in. Going to war is a VERY mentally focused task. It's not just shooting rounds and chucking bombs. The unit has to be focused and clear in communication. Else there's an unnecessary fatality. Sure it happens but they pride themselves on keeping it to either zero or a minimum of civilian casualty. Complacency and doubt leads to very grave mistakes. This is why they emphasize respect and unity. It prevents many careless mistakes.

Oh...I meant to say that if there is doubt and disrespect for your higher ups...your focus and accuracy will be off on the battle field. It's highly discouraged. More happens on the war zone than opinions. Most are just fighting for their lives. Mentality has a lot to do with it. Does that make any sense? I am trying not to sound to Marine but it's hard. Everyone speaks in short slang in the Marines...it's hard to rub off so I don't know if I'm explaining it right.

I dont know for a fact, personally but I just asked my 'navy guy' ( former ) and his reply was... yep. Basically, the oath, once taken.... always to be honored.

I guess the most I can add is that when someone joins the military, there's a common understanding of presenting loyalty and honor to your country, your leader(s), and the people you are protecting with your life. Being a Marine Wife, the Marines took this serious to an infinite degree. Other branches could slack off when they weren't in uniform (there is a very strict code of conduct when in uniform of what can be said and done) but the Marines seemed to never really lighten up about the military even hanging out at home. However, people are more likely to be disgruntled after retiring or getting discharged. IF a person is injured, that doesn't matter. Some people are extremely loyal even when being severely burned or harmed. I've seen many wear their injuries like a badge of courage. Some people show so much strength even when they cannot walk, see, or move. It's pretty amazing...
